What is the Solidarity Fund and Why Does CultivAction Have One?
At CultivAction we strongly believe that access to local, ecologically-grown, fresh food, should not be a luxury for a few, but a right for all! Even if we try to keep prices low, while paying worker-members living wages, we recognize that for many, what we sell still isn’t accessible. With this in mind, we’ve created a “solidarity fund” which will help subsidize CSA baskets on a sliding scale, for folks who wouldn’t otherwise be able to access this produce. As well, we donate some of what we grow to several local community organization in NDG who are also fighting food insecurity and systemic inequalities.
Where does the Money Come From?
For every CSA subscription sold, a 10% contribution will be automatically allocated to the Solidarity Fund. In addition to the automatic contribution we, we are making it possible for community members and CultivAction clients who are in a position to redistribute funds, to donate directly to the Solidarity Fund.
Ways to contribute to the Solidarity Fund

How to Access Solidarity Fund Support ?
To access the Solidarity Fund, fill out the CSA registration form for the basket of your choosing and select the Solidarity Basket option.
We will do our best to fulfill your request! Please note that the solidarity fund works on a first come, first serve basis. We usually suggest somewhere between 20-50% of the total cost. We don’t ask for any justification or explanation. We trust you!
Consider giving more(ex: half the price of a full CSA basket)if you: have received or are planning to receive a family inheritance, travel bidirectionally, went to private schools most, or all of your life, own the home you live in, check the stock market like others check TikTok, are part of an exclusive club (ex: boat, or tennis), have a safety net of friend or family to fall back on, have a relatively high degree of earning power due to level of education (or gender and racial privilege, class background, etc.)
Consider giving less if you: have children or other dependents, have some form of significant debt, have large medical expenses not covered by insurance, are a senior citizen etc.
Please do not stress about these suggestions, they are simply invitations to reflect on our financial resources and privilege and to participate in a process of community solidarity and economic justice.
We wholeheartedly recognize that there a plenty of other organizations and groups that are fighting for social and economic justice that are worth redistributing to as well.
*We have used language from Ferme Aux Champs Qui Chantent and Rock Steady Farm and would like to thank Underground Alchemy, Soul Fire Farm, Radherb, Third Root, and the Kula Center for their inspiration, dedication, and work developing sliding scale models. *
