The Loyola Farm

The Loyola Farm is approximately 5000 square foot plot located at Concordia University, Loyola campus. Its the the previous location of  City Farm School. The Loyola Farm is where we grow the majority of our seedlings, have our three-season greenhouse, run some of our education programming grow mushrooms, medicinals and of course lots of annual vegetables and herbs. We’re lucky to grow food on such a big plot in the city surrounded by so many other lovely garden groups!

Funky Fungi

Funky Fungi is co-op member Nico Schutte’s mushroom grow operation based out of CultivAction’s Loyola farm space. Outdoors, they cultivate red wine caps, oyster, lion’s mane, and shiitake mushrooms in outdoor garden beds. Funky Fungi also specializes in log-inoculation with various other mushroom varieties, most notable: chicken of the woods, reishi, shiitake, and lion’s mane. For indoor production, Nico focuses on mushroom genetics in the form of liquid culture, petri dishes, and grain spawn.

The Concordia Greenhouse

We are growing microgreens at the Concordia Greenhouse. In this space, we are also growing all of the seedlings needed to fulfill the Loyola farm and the Ferme Urbaine Duff-Court. We are also using this space to experiment with four seasons growing even in the winter months.

We may produce extra seedling for sale to the public, please stay tuned for more information.

The Senneville Patchwork Farm

Our Senneville plots are over an acre large on the beautiful Morgan Farms. We’ve had one smaller plot which is part of the Patchwork community since the summer of 2023 where we grow lots of tomatoes, beans and peas. As of 2024 we’ve started farming on a neighbouring, larger plot.  There is so much to discover at the new Senneville plot! In addition to growing lots of tasty, fresh vegetables we have a home-made solar oven, a food forest with dozens of fruit trees and bushes and Senneville is also where the quails and chickens live! Come visit the farm and spend time on some of the last farm land on the island!

We are growing fruits and vegetables without the use of any chemical fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides

Here is a list of the annual fruits and veggies we are growing this year

We invite you to come and see whats growing and speak directly with the farmers and see the methods of our production first hand. Also please contact us is you have any suggestions or requests for what you would like us to grow. Please note that availability is subject to what is in season.

CAMPUS-COMMUNITY CONNECTION

Concordia University

Under the leadership of Erik Chevrier, Professor in Urban Agriculture at Concordia University,  Coop Cultivaction is creating opportunities for Montreal residents and Concordia University students to get involved in urban agriculture and learn about nature-based climate solutions to growing food and be part of a meaningful and mutually beneficial movement towards a more thriving and cooperative local food system.

The goal for this partnership is to create a research capacity in urban agriculture and connect a network of faculty and students to enrich the Duff-Court neighborhood.
