Class 1 – May 13th

Hi everyone, welcome to the first urban agriculture certificate course from CultivAction Solidarity Cooperative. Erik Chevrier, Ph.D. and Mohammed Al-Duais will be your instructors for the course.

We will meet at the farm at Loyola Campus. The Loyola Farm is located at the back of Concordia University, Loyola Campus – TB building. 7079 Rue de Terrebonne, Montreal, Quebec H4B 1E1.

Class 1: Getting Started in the Garden

In our first session, participants will be welcomed to the Loyola Farm with a guided tour of the site, exploring a variety of perennial and annual plants. We’ll introduce the basics of setting up a garden space and begin some early tasks to get our hands in the soil. This session is a mix of orientation, learning, and hands-on experience to kick off the season.

  • A symbolic and practical way to begin our gardening journey

Garden & Farm Tour

  • Walk through the Loyola Farm and get to know the plants, layout, and purpose of the space

Gardening Basics Workshop

  • Intro to soil, tools, planting, and maintenance

Hands-on Garden Tasks

  • Light work in the garden to begin preparing and tending beds
