Class 7 – Garden Issues and Solutions

Class Content

In this seventh session, participants will learn how to identify and respond to common garden problems by observing plants, diagnosing issues, and developing ecological solutions. We will explore how plants communicate stress through visible signs and symptoms, including problems caused by diseases, nutrient deficiencies, and environmental conditions. Participants will learn about common plant diseases caused by viruses, fungi, bacteria, and nematodes, as well as strategies to prevent problems, reduce their spread, and support healthier plants.

Introduction & Check-in
– Sharing current garden challenges, observations, and successes
– Identifying plant issues and questions that have emerged over the past two weeks

Garden Walk: Identifying Plant Problems and Solutions
– Observing current garden conditions and identifying signs of plant stress, disease, and other issues
– Learning to recognize common symptoms and distinguish between environmental stress, nutrient deficiencies, pests, and diseases
– Discussing common plant diseases caused by viruses, fungi, bacteria, and nematodes
– Exploring prevention, treatment, and ecological approaches to reduce the spread of plant problems and maintain healthy plants

Hands-on Garden Work
– Completing seasonal garden tasks and addressing current issues
– Applying strategies discussed during the session to support plant health
– Identifying priorities and tasks to focus on over the next two weeks
