In this eighth session, we’ll explore integrated pest management (IPM) through hands-on observation in the garden. We’ll look for insects and signs of plant disease, use iNaturalist to help identify what we find, and investigate whether different insects are beneficial, harmful, or neutral to the garden. We’ll then apply these observations to decisions about garden care and work on maintaining healthy, productive garden plots.

Welcome & Check-in

Garden Exploration: Insects & Plant Diseases

– Explore the garden to look for insects, signs of insect damage, and plant diseases
– Use iNaturalist to help identify insects and other observations
– Investigate whether insects are beneficial, harmful, or neutral to the garden
– Discuss integrated pest management and approaches to responding to garden pests and diseases

Hands-on Garden Work

– Apply nutrients to support plant growth
– Weed garden spaces
– Trim and maintain plants
– Address other garden needs identified during the garden walk
